Amazing Women of Worcester
Coloring Book
Inspiration:
In a small but mighty city, there were ladies of courage, intelligence, and impressive derring-do! Among them: an internationally renowned corset designer (yes, it’s from City of Corsets!), a drama coach who starred in a wildly popular CBS sitcom, an escapee from a French concentration camp who became an award-winning American poet, a Nipmuc elder who baked elaborate wedding cakes for upper class colonial Worcesterites, a telephone operator on the World War I battlefields in France, an itinerant artist whose works are hanging in the Met in New York City.. and many more!
Welcome to a coloring book showcasing fascinating women from the city’s history with illustrations by fabulous local female artists. Learn about pioneers in many fields as you sit with colored pencils, inspired by these incredible stories. The book will feature artwork created by Worcester women of today, each of whom will be profiled too.
Goal: The first printing of this book will be distributed for free in 2025 to youth (12 years+) at Girls Inc., Boys & Girls Club, Friendly House, Youth Center, and Museum of Worcester. Future editions will be available for purchase throughout greater Worcester and at events planned for the celebration of the 175th anniversary of the first National Women’s Rights Convention which was held in Worcester in October 1850.
Audience: 12 years old and up
Artists:
Artists featured in the book have a connection to Worcester, be it their hometown, college, or current place of residence. Learn more about them at their profile pages.
Staff: Local public historian Anne Marie Murphy is a research business owner and author. She had the honor of researching and writing the profiles. Chloe Tibets, a professional artist with experience in various media, interviewed women around the city from various backgrounds to identify the artists who created drawings for the project.
