The Corsetieres

The “corsetiere” was part seamstress, part tailor, part small business owner, part salesperson.  The city of Worcester was full of them!  The Worcester city directories, in their business pages section, distinguished between a “corsetiere” and “corset manufacturer,” the latter a larger employer.  Our first corsetiere profile is of Edith Salgstrom.  Visit again soon to find additional profiles of Worcester’s small scale corset makers.
